I am fascinated by the scientific endeavor and I read about or engage with those processes as much as possible. I am a compulsive reader and writer. With a background in anthropology and as an arm-chair/backyard scientist, I hope to improve my writing skills and learn about any areas of weakness or misunderstanding in my analytic skills. I am excited to share. Thank you for spending time here. Please reach out if you are so inclined. I'd be excited to hear from you.

  1. I want to know more about this word art of yours i.e. do you write it when you are listening to some music, or watching something in nature, etc? These words intrigue me.

    1. Hello Amir and thank you for asking such a question. Smile. I had to consider it! I sit down to write at least once a day, often with no idea or plan. I just write and see what I have to say (often nothing!). I think of it as transcribing or scribing, like words are coming through me. So writing them feels like I am a radio station broadcasting a song.
      I do not take myself or my words too seriously. This helps with freedom of expression.

      The Tao of writing, for me, rests in the doing. Practice and habit. I write in my mind as I go through the everyday. I look for things that seem magical amongst the mundane. This morning it was a non-decorative, pink ribbon tied a leaf of a shrub. It implies a story through the mystery of why it is there, who put it there, will it be removed soon, does it indicate further action will occur?

      Walking, dancing, breath practice, even standing on my toes. These things help me write. I do them everyday. I often snap pictures, quickly, as I take walks. Then, I just create a free verse based on what I can see. I am a music fanatic. I walk with headphones. I use it regularly to create a mindscape, like a soundtrack provides emotional context for a film. It helps me shift my focus to an interior space.

      My favorite practice is to grab a book from the shelf, open it at random, and read a passage. Tolle lege. Or, I recall a poet I love and read a poem. I do not rewrite it or write about the same theme. I see what it prompts my mind to think.

      I am a nut for words. I have four print dictionaries collected from yard sales. I often flip through one, wait for a word, any word, to catch my attention. Then I consult all four and note the etymology. There is a tangible difference, to me, between using the internet to look up words versus consulting the same, printed dictionaries time and time again. It is not a matter of accuracy as much as a consistency in my methodology. I have come to consult these dictionaries as oracles, per se. I have a relationship with them in a strange way. The writing I am most proud of usually is inspired by this method.

      I try to share at least one new piece of writing everyday. They form a running thread that I can clasp to if I am completely out of inspiration.
      It also keeps me authentic because it forces me to finish one piece a day and release it to the world even if I do not like it i.e. it reminds me to not take myself too seriously, that the whole point is the doing to create and share (my Tao), and it is not the doing to impress others or myself. I think this makes me better at the craft.

      When people do respond or resonate with the work, it gives me great joy because my intent was to be honest. It is the sweetest bonus because I know they resonate with what passes for my mind at that time. Metaphysical resonance. Gives me chills!

      I appreciate your interest. I am so pleased you find the work engaging.
      Thank you for your time and reaching out.

      What thoughts do you have on the artistic process/es?

      1. Wow Casey! you just blew my mind with such an awesome description of how you produce your word art. And before I could respond to you, the first thing that came to my mind was to save/store your precious words alongwith my own observation(s) at;

        To answer your question about my own process(es) of writing, I feel like a mirror to the universe. Whatever I see (just like yourself) and feel, I simply given it a form of words. My words are usually reactive, not creative like yours. I don’t write fiction since there’s already enough non-fictional beauty surrounding my existance in this enormous universe.
        I can go on and on describing my own process of writing but I’d prefer to be brief over here and leave the rest for something to talk about over a cup of coffee with you someday. I’m more like a face-to-face individual (feeling and expressing verbally) than writing since my (written) words (which are reactive) are usually misunderstood by many.
        Looking forward to seeing more of your music choice and word art 🙂

      2. Yep… I love coffee. And I hope you don’t get ideas from what I am about to share with you. I have never drank in my life but does not mean I have never been to bars (drinking coke and juice) and kissing those chicks who drink (not drunk). Cheers to your art Casey! I love it. 🌹🎈💕👍
