Watch “Joni Mitchell – A Case Of You – Live 1974” on YouTube

what a song is this one. a live version cuz I feel good.

I could drink a case of you, darling and I would still be on my feet.

Genius! What a perfect thing to say.

It sounds like a compliment and then you realize it’s a backhanded compliment.

She can drink a freaking case and still stand? He must not be that strong or intoxicating. Bit of a light weight really.

Of course, maybe she just handles her booze more adeptly than most and can ‘hang’ like a tender tent pulled in tension on tenter hooks takes the dimension of volume whereas before it only had two: length and height.

      1. hmm. ‘ladies…’ always torn between ‘conversation’ & ‘rainy night house’. there could be worse places to be caught between. the first is pure joy/ the second, lyrically, is untouchable: “you called me beautiful/you called your mother…” & also “upon her small white bed/i fell into a dream…” – you can’t make that shit up without the hand of god.
‘conversation’ – is the same chords as BYT – ace chords of course. the jaunty sister song. but, & here’s the rub…”comfort & consultation..” “i bring him apples & cheeses/he brings me songs to play.” – this is JM, for me, at her peak. The planets surely aligned the day she wrote that shit. I m a sucker for a well written love song – this one, apparently about Graham Nash – & they don’t cum/come better than this one: sweet before bitter, arch, wry, detailed, loaded with longing, early love juices.
Blue : California. ‘…he gave me back my smile, but he kept my camera to sell’. There’s the country edge, sweet smelling, jaunty (jaunty? nah, i’d love to see that lady sashay down main street!). she almost loses it – i never tire of that balance act. ….”reading rolling stone, reading vogue’
many of those topanga valley types 68-71 are ace. but Joni was head & shoulders above all those Crosby/Newman types – silly boys. still, musta been effing A to be up there in the hills.
        Howaboutya?
        Thanks for askin.

      2. I don’t rightly know right now: fave moments
        Ladies..
        – Morning Morgantown: the only thing I have…is all the mornings still to live
        – first line of Ladies of the Canyon (song)
        – she speaks in sorry sentences, Miraculous repentances. I don’t believe her. She kills the delivery on that
        – nobody stopped… never been on their tv
        – can I walk beside you..to be a cog in something turning
        – Rainy Night House-

      3. Blue:
All I Want / This Flight Tonight.
Wanna knit you a sweater, wanna write you a love letter.
Wanna be strong, I wanna laugh along

Little Green, My Old Man (much like Neil Young’s A Man Needs a Maid from Harvest) often have to skip. break my heart open.
        you’re a mean ole…I like you.
Blue, here is a shell for you, inside you’ll hear a sigh. A foggy lullaby. There is your song from me.
I hope you got your heat on baby, I hope you finally fixed your automobile
constantly in darkness?! Where is that at?! If ya want me I’ll be in the bar
