It sounds like a compliment and then you realize it’s a backhanded compliment.
She can drink a freaking case and still stand? He must not be that strong or intoxicating. Bit of a light weight really.
Of course, maybe she just handles her booze more adeptly than most and can ‘hang’ like a tender tent pulled in tension on tenter hooks takes the dimension of volume whereas before it only had two: length and height.

hmm. ‘ladies…’ always torn between ‘conversation’ & ‘rainy night house’. there could be worse places to be caught between. the first is pure joy/ the second, lyrically, is untouchable: “you called me beautiful/you called your mother…” & also “upon her small white bed/i fell into a dream…” – you can’t make that shit up without the hand of god.
‘conversation’ – is the same chords as BYT – ace chords of course. the jaunty sister song. but, & here’s the rub…”comfort & consultation..” “i bring him apples & cheeses/he brings me songs to play.” – this is JM, for me, at her peak. The planets surely aligned the day she wrote that shit. I m a sucker for a well written love song – this one, apparently about Graham Nash – & they don’t cum/come better than this one: sweet before bitter, arch, wry, detailed, loaded with longing, early love juices.
